Effective March 13th 2008, NASA Mid-Atlantic Autocross is the premier regional NASA-X program in the nation. Because the NASA-X national office and NASA-X regional office are now one and the same (see http://www.autocross.us/forums/index.php?showtopic=3943 ), we are literally paving the way for all the other NASA-X regions.
So without further ado, here we go... all the world's NASA-X questions are hopefully about to be answered: *new* 2008 NASA-X National Rules: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/nasa-x/NASA-X_Rules.pdf *new* 2008 NASA-X Mid-Atlantic Rules Supplement: http://www.get-fast.net/nasacross/nasa-x_ma_supps_2008.pdf (These first two links probably don't contain any info you guys & gals haven't seen/heard from us before, but they're worth reading anyway.) *new* 2008 NASA-X National Classes: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/nasa-x/NASA-X_Classes.pdf (This third link is our brand new 21 page NASA-X specific national car classing document.) *new* 2008 NASA-X Car Classification Form: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/nasa-x/...X_ClassForm.pdf (This fourth link is a worksheet specifically for points calculations & upclassing once you know your base class from the third link.) *new* 2008 NASA-X Tech Inspection Form: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/nasa-x/NASA-X_Tech.pdf (And finally, this fifth link should only be used as a guideline - no need to print/fill out/bring it to regular Mid-Atl events.) Now a summary of the NASA-X car classing changes. Starting with the April 6th event at VMP our new classes will be, in order from theoretical fastest to theoretical slowest: NASA-X R (NXR), NASA-X U (NXU), NASA-X S (NXS), NASA-X A (NXA), NASA-X B (NXB), NASA-X C (NXC), NASA-X D (NXD), NASA-X E (NXE), NASA-X F (NXF), NASA-X G (NXG), NASA-X H (NXH), and NOVICE. "R", "U", and "S" are now additional "20 more points each" classes above "A", so new base classes now exist for all cars that were previously in one of those three by the TT classing we used before (i.e. no more dyno/weight requirements, just calculate the points - except in extreme cases of course.) "G" and "H" will no longer be rolled into "F", they will now be standalone classes as well. Otherwise the points system is pretty much verbatim identical with NASA TT (and PT roadracing for that matter.) Although I would strongly suggest that anyone competing in '08 who already knows their car's class... should run through links #3 and #4 above just to be safe. As I said they're pretty much the same as what we were using before for almost all competitors, but there may be a few minor changes that could affect points - so please check again, better safe than sorry. Also of course the owners of cars at either end of that spectrum - i.e. particularly what used to fall under "U", "A", "E", or "F" - will need to double check their classes too. If you find that your car's class has changed from what we currently have on file as a result of anything at the links above, specifically if you competed with us on Feb 10 at VMP or Feb 24 at VIR-Patriot, please email nasa-x@get-fast.net ASAP so we can update the results from those events. We *will* be retroactively applying these classing changes to the first two events so that we can run a full season under the new classing. Hopefully at least 99% of the drivers competing in NASA-X will find their car's class quickly and easily. But as before, anyone with something particularly customized (engine swap, aftermarket forced induction, homebuilt car, significant power or chassis modifications, etc) will need to have their base class assigned by me in advance... using the exact same formulas that generated the many pages of base classing in section 1.2 of the third link above. The same rules apply to owners of any cars whose base classes aren't already listed, no matter where it seems like those cars should be classed just by educated guessing. In some cases we *may* require dyno sheets & weights, but I'm hoping that will be pretty rare because it will obviously cost the car's owner some money. We have also created a theoretical "Expo" class for any car that exceeds the mathematical limits of the points (i.e. "R" with more than 19 modification points added.) The example we were tossing around was a V8-powered Ariel Atom on Michelin slicks. Although if we ever see a machine like that at a NASA-X, we'll probably be too busy drooling on it to worry about what class it's in! National rules & classes are now posted at http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules.html . Links above have been updated.
Regional rules supplement continues to be at http://www.get-fast.net/nasacross/nasa-x_ma_supps_2008.pdf Onward and upward, Jon |
