Registration is open for the second annual NASA Mid-Atlantic "DoubleCross" (i.e. championship event #5) at VMP on Sunday August 3, 2008:
https://www.nasaproracing.com/nasa_event/show/?event_id=756 As we did last summer, this event is like two "regular" autocrosses in one. That is, each participant will do 3-4 runs clockwise then 3-4 runs counterclockwise on the course. The best times in each direction are combined and then ranked/scored normally. It's extra fun! Who's in? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yesnod.gif) See ya there, Jon |

Heck yeah, I loved this last year you really get to see how much running the corners in the opposite direction effects and relative placement. I've gotta clean up my act and get back to the top of D class after last week's schooling.
Come on out folks, basically two auto-xes in one day! Now where can I find some traction compound (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Brian |

If I can figure how to keep all of the magic smoke on the inside, I might come out and play for this event. I'm always downhill (and by downhill, I mean a cone destroyer) after 4 runs anyway.
That'll make +1 D car for you Brian (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) |

I'm glad to see some D class signups but com'n Jon, you're not going to run too? I was gonna coat my rear bumper with teflon so the cones will slide off and not get knocked out of the box this time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Now how about all of the other classes? I know there'll be some other good battles too. |

I'm glad to see some D class signups but com'n Jon, you're not going to run too? Wish I could, but I'll be in LA working the final test drive autocross for this series: http://blog.minitakesthestates.com/ James Packer will be your event director / control / safety steward at VMP on Aug 3. He could use one assistant course designer and one person to work registration, if anyone is interested. Thanks, Jon |

Personally I nominate Henley as course designer but I don't know how the bigger cars will handle a milk-bone shaped slalom.
Have fun in LA, were not going to see a Jon 'Cooper' Felton Works Mini soon are we? |

Hahaha re: milk bone slalom. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Nah, I have driven the Works cars and although they are the most fun of the bunch, I gave up FWD for new years 2003. Now if they would cut me a "friends & family" lease deal on a 135 or 335, hmmm... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/seeya.gif) Jon |

Make that 10. After this weekend and the chaos of summer subsides I will begin to register earlier.
You could make it a contest - first 10 registrants get 12 runs instead of 8 or whatever the count will be for that day. All walk-ups have to run the course in reverse unless they are novice and then they have to let the more experienced people drive and they get to passeng. Yeah, I made that up - feel free to use it. verb PASSENG: to passeng - to ride-a-long Wow. 9 of 75 spots filled via pre-reg, two and a half weeks out? We'd be there, but thats our week to forget the real world, and hit the road for some R&R. Im sure early that morning we'll be sitting somewhere with a great view, some good coffee, and feeling like were late for something (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yes, late for the driver meeting (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) What could be more therapuetic than scarring cones out of their boxes?
The light signups do seem odd, there's no holiday that weekend that I'm aware of. Whats going to be the D class tie-breaker if different people win each direction, I'll push hard to get that 2/10th's seperation back from you guys (which may mean 4-5 cones on some runs) |

One less available spot. I'm in. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/good.gif)
Been spreading the word too. Hopefully I can get a couple other guys to come out and play. |

Well I have never done one of these...so here comes a Novice. My buddy Paul will more then likely be heading out there with me as well. Should be some good fun. Going to see who else I can get to come out as well.

44 of 60 spots remain open as of noon on the Monday prior. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)
I would recommend signing up for this event if at all possible, because we may soon cancel the fall/winter VMP dates. Details: http://www.autocross.us/forums/index.php?showtopic=3640 Jon |

I had a load of fun on that course during heat 1! It was really open and fast for the most part. And as long as you really hugged the line through some of those slaloms, they could be very fast.
But then all hell broke loose in the first hour of heat 2... Overall though, I had a great time! |

But then all hell broke loose in the first hour of heat 2... See what happens when I'm not there? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Kidding. Sounded like much of the craziness was unavoidable. Anybody got video of the course... in both directions? Jon |
