Excellent question sir. I'll need to double check with headquarters but my gut feeling is "unfortunately no" because Circuitcrosses are insured as HPDE's and we don't allow openwheel cars in those for safety reasons (very low, and no fenders.) However, Circuitcrosses are like autocrosses - cars sent solo at 30ish second intervals - so we may be able to gain an exemption for these events specifically. I'll check it out this week and report back.

Thanks for asking,

Jon

Absolutely. Your HPDE tech sticker gains you an exemption from having to go through Circuitcross tech. All you would need to do is check in at the start of our drivers meeting, attend that meeting, then get your runs in as you could fit 'em around your HPDE sessions. Circuitcross heats will be roughly 95min each but it's fine if you only have time for a few runs before you have to go back to the main track, then a few more runs later, until you've done however many we decide everyone will get, even if it ends up that you drive in all three heats. Sounds confusing but it has worked out just fine in the past. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Good question,

Jon
PS- same deal applies for Saturday fun on VIR's skidpad - your entry will get you 2 tickets which you can use anytime during the day that we've got the skidpad open for that in particular (at least 4-5 hours) in between your HPDE sessions

Skidpad runs? Heheh, I'll have to start working hard on getting the CRX done or I might have a car dedicated more to AutoX/Time Trial/Drifting by the start of the new season. We'll see.

Yep, see here for some VIR skidpad preliminary details: http://www.autocross.us/forums/index.php?showtopic=3640

(Dates are firm, prices and times are tentative.)

"Some trucks and SUVs not permitted"

Just in case, how about a 2003 Ford Ranger that was lowered 4" in the front and 5" in the rear?

No idea, I'd have to see it. Never been asked a question like that before. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Jon
ps- is it 2wd? We had an X-Runner and a lowered Dakota at the autoX today (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yesnod.gif)

Of course. No proper lowered truck would be 4WD. AWD, maybe. This actually sits lower than the X-Runner. Speaking of Toyota, I work at Priority Toyota now. So far, I'm making about what I did at Clay Home Medical, not enough. Seriously, I'm making more per hour but can't get people to buy enough to turn enough hours. It's aggravating.

Sorry, off topic. Anyway, my dad might be interested in the skid pad. I'll talk to him about it when he and mom get back from Vegas.

Following up on this, I just heard back from headquarters. YES openwheel cars are ok for Circuitcrosses in 2008 as long as they aren't karts. FF, CF, FV, FC, FM, etc are all fine. The only caveat is that they cannot share the track with fendered cars at all... which means their runs won't be staggered at our usual ~30sec start intervals, they will be totally solo... i.e. the openwheelers must be through the finish and heading back toward grid before the next (fendered) car is sent at the start.

With a maximum of 60 cars in three heats spread across 5+ hours of open track time, we can definitely sprinkle at least a few openwheel cars into the mix and nobody will get any fewer runs as a result.

Thanks again for asking,

Jon
Edit: clarifying a point, they can be run at staggered intervals ONLY with other openwheel cars. Not with fendered cars. So if we had three FF's, we could run those three at 30sec start intervals but they couldn't start their rotation until the fendered car before them was through the finish, and we couldn't send the next fendered car behind them until they were all done and back through the finish. Hope that makes sense.

-"sub leasing" part of these days to businesses, groups, or clubs looking to do something similar (i.e. their own championship autocross using more cones on the track, continuous timed laps, touring laps, customer lapping sessions w/instruction, etc) at a flat rate per track hour - sanctioned, staffed, insured, and green flag ready.

I am officially confirming that the middle of three Circuitcross dates - i.e. Sunday March 30, 2008 - has been rented to an autocross club to do a NASA-sanctioned "members first, then everyone else if it doesn't fill" event that is similar to a Circuitcross. More details will be available as soon as that club lets me spill the beans. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yesnod.gif)

Meanwhile, NASA-MA Circuitcrosses for double autoX championship points will definitely be Sun Feb 24 and Sun Jul 27, 2008. Each will have a CircuitSchool in the morning (mandatory for novice drivers, highly recommended for everyone.) Registration for the first one opens 11/20/07 here:

Excited,

Jon

Well I believe you can expect to have at least 3 C Mod Formula Fords and perhaps another I know of. Thanks for checking on that Jon.

Thanks, Jon. Dave and I hope to join you for one or both depending on how work and school cooperate. Don't know if Stan was including us in his numbers, but it sounds like you should be able to count on at least a couple of FFs. I have driven the Patriot course a couple of times in my street car. It is a lot of fun.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/checkeredflag.gif) Zack & I will be in for 1-2 of these and will likely take in a drift event or HPDE whatever is available (maybe karts as well).

It was a blast this year, but more fun next with a full cage and hopefully a trailer in case Zach does another offroad excursion.

Z-ya all there in the spring! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/checkeredflag.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/seeya.gif)

I like the idea of instruction for those a little intimidated or unfamiliar with the track. Patriot flows much like an autocross and is much slower than the big circuit so I think some instruction on this would help people to transition from autocross to HPDEs. Let me know if you need volunteers. I instruct for the DC SCCA at Summit for their Time Trial series and will likely instruct for some BSR events at Summit next year.

It was recently mentioned elsewhere but is worth mentioning here now as well... nonmembers are welcome on Patriot in '08 for an additional $10/day, just like at our regular autocrosses, and UNLIKE '06/'07 Patriot events during which all participants had to be fullbore $40 card-carrying NASA members.

Good stuff,

Jon
